K-1st Grade Resource Class:
*Kindergarteners are currently working on sounds and letters of the alphabet.
* The Jolly Phonics program introduces students to 42 letter / letter combinations using hand motions as the sounds are produced. The Jolly Songs are a fun and interactive way of helping the children learn the 42 letter sounds of English.
*1st Graders are continuing to review the 42 sounds of English as we make words and sentences.
The students are learning to write words as they visually see the"Jolly Phonics" actions that correspond to each sound.
Students are also practicing their spelling words and sight words in intervention groups.
We are concentrating on hearing and writing vowels and blends in cvc and ccvc words.
Students are developing their writing skills as we learn about the naming parts (nouns) and telling parts (verbs) of a sentence.
Students are learning proper grammar conventions used in making sentences. (Capitalization and Puncuation)

We have rolled into Spring and we have been "rocking and rolling" as we have been
learning many new things!!!
* Kindergarteners are now applying the phonetic sounds they learned to make words and simple sentences!
The students are doing great with their sight words and are reading Easy-Reader books at their "Learning Levels". I am so proud of them!! :)
*1st graders are really taking off with their spelling of words with "silent" e and vowel patterns. They all know the chant "when two vowels do the walking the first one does the talking." Most of the students are getting 100% on their Friday tests and wiping my treasure box clean of the earned little prizes.
I have been amazed to see the growth in the high frequency words that the students are retaining! The work at home really pays off. Most of the students know 75% of the words and have moved up a Rigby Reading Level. Bravo!!!
Grammar conventions and simple sentences are coming along. The students have worked very hard to become writers!
We are working on writing some simple paragraphs including a focus statement, 3 details, and a wrap up sentence. By the end of the year they will amaze you with what they come home with!
