This day is of momentous historical significance - the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. We at Harrison School and others throughout the state of Illinois are involved in many activities to honor, commemorate, and celebrate the life and works of this great man. Coincidentally, this day is also the Bicentennial of Charles Darwin. Both men were born on the same day, only on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Lincoln and Darwin each developed and acted on immensely great and powerful ideas which have changed our modern world forever. They each have come to symbolize their respective ideas. Although Lincoln deservedly has received much attention today, Darwin on the other hand is almost totally ignored. Hopefully this situation will change both in our schools and in our society. Anyway, it is hoped that this initial blog created on this special day will generate some perhaps small ideas which through discussion, consideration, and motivation to action will result in significant positive change in our world.
