How to tell if school is cancelled...

With the arrival of winter weather, please be reminded of the ways the district announces schools are closed. The announcement is made by 6:00 am through the following.  The following are ways that you can tell if there is a cancellation:

~ A Honeywell Instant Alert phone call to parents/guardians

~ Information posted on the district's website at
http://www.hsd36.org/

~ Local television and radio stations

~ Emergency Closing Center's website at
http://www.emergencyclosingcenter.com/ecc/search.jsp

We will only announce when schools are closed. If schools are not closed, it is ultimately the responsibility of parents and guardians to decide if conditions safely allow for their children to attend school.

 Superintendent Search

Dear School/Community Members,

On January 25, 2010, I announced that I had accepted a Superintendent of School position at a nearby school district effective at the end of this school year.  I have enjoyed my tenure here and want to thank the staff and community who have contributed to our school’s success.  In the remaining months ahead I will remain focused on our mission – the continued high achievement and growth of our students and serving the community of School District 36.

At their Regular Board Meeting on February 23, the Board determined the scope and timelines of the search for a new Superintendent.  Dawn Miller, Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) consultant will be handling the entire search process for the Board.

Should you or someone you know be interested in applying for this position please go to the IASB website at www.iasb.com.  There is a link off their homepage on the left hand side menu entitled Executive Searches.  Click on that link and when the next page appears select “current searches.”  Scroll down the list until you find Harrison School District 36 and follow the directions.  All applications for the Superintendent position must be submitted through the IASB website in order to receive consideration.

Next Steps in Superintendent Search:

·     IASB will close D-36 Superintendent applications April 9

·     IASB will screen applicants to determine 5-7 candidates to present to Board

·     Board meeting April 13 (Executive Session) to have IASB present candidates’ applications

·     Special Board Meeting on April 17 (Executive Session) for Round 1 interviews of candidates

·     Special Board Meeting on April 24 (Executive Session) for Round 2 interviews of candidates

·     Board will determine two (2) finalist candidates

·     Week of May 3-7 Board representatives will conduct Site Visits

·     May 25th Regular Board Meeting – Proposed announcement of new Superintendent

On behalf of the District and Board of Education I would like to thank everyone for your interest in this important process.

Sincerely,

Jill Gildea
Superintendent
